Work to begin under Tangerine Interchange Bridge

Starting Monday, March 18, Borderland Construction will begin Phase 5 of the Great Tangerine Squeeze project, which focuses on improvements beneath the Tangerine Interchange bridge. Motorists should expect the following traffic impacts:

Underpass Restricted to One Lane Each Direction: Starting Monday, May 18, 2026, through Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Borderland Construction will begin work on the underpass improvements to create new abutment lanes. Construction on the north side is scheduled to follow, with completion expected in March 2027.

Traffic through the underpass on Tangerine Road will be reduced to one lane for eastbound drivers (Dove Mountain bound) and one lane for westbound drivers (Gladden Farms bound). Access to the I-10 will remain open. Construction personnel will be working near the roadway. Please obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices.

Tangerine Road Exit (240) Westbound Off-Ramp: Starting Monday, May 18, the westbound off-ramp will be reduced to a single left-turn lane until March 2027. Use alternate routes to avoid this exit during peak rush hours, particularly for commuters heading home from the Tucson area. 

Alternate Routes to Avoid the Squeeze: Drivers are advised to expect delays and plan for extra travel time during peak traffic hours. Using one of the alternate routes listed below is strongly recommended to avoid construction.

• Westbound Tangerine to Gladden Farms area: Exit at Avra Valley Road (Exit 242), take Sanders Road to Moore Road and continue to Tangerine Farms Road.
• Eastbound Tangerine to Dove Mountain/Oro Valley area: Take Exit 244 for Twin Peaks Road to the Dove Mountain Boulevard and Tangerine Road intersection.
