Tangerine Road and I-10 Traffic Interchange Improvements (ST107)

Project Status: Construction

  • The planned improvements for the Tangerine Interim Traffic Interchange project will improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
  • Key project improvements include relocating the signalized ramp on the west side of I-10, near QuikTrip, adding more stacking space for vehicles and new turn lanes to make travel smoother. Realignment of the eastbound on- and off-ramp for seamless merging and reducing congestion.
  • Construction will be managed through sequential phases. Motorists should anticipate changing traffic configurations and reduced speeds throughout the construction area.
  • Construction will also feature new travel lanes alongside the underpass support, known as ‘abutment lanes,’ in both directions on Tangerine Road.
  • The abutment lanes will ultimately be part of the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Crossing phase, which is currently in the final design stage. This phase of the project will require separate reviews and approvals by UPRR and the Arizona Corporation Commission.
  • Completion of the UPRR improvements will require a temporary full closure at the Tangerine railroad crossing for an extended period during construction. Although the construction timeline has not been finalized, the closure is anticipated to be in place for 8 weeks. Please check this page often for updates as details are finalized.
  • Constructed abutment lanes will be fully functional upon completion of the UPRR improvements.
  • We are fully committed to successfully delivering this community project. Project milestones are subject to adjustment based on outside agency schedules.
  • Traffic Impacts: Beginning in June , the westbound off-ramp will be temporarily reduced to one turn lane during construction. Motorists should anticipate delays and are advised to seek alternate routes.

The project is anticipated to be completed by March 2027.
