Town of Marana Receives Two Regional Awards

MARANA- The Town of Marana is being recognized for two major projects that have made a positive impact on the community.
On Friday, May 8, 2026, the Metropolitan Pima Alliance honored the town with two Common Ground Awards for the Marana Aquatic and Recreation Center (MARC) and the Twin Peaks Rattlesnake Pass Widening Project.
The Town of Marana’s Parks and Recreation Department staff accepted the MARC award on behalf of the town along with one of its project partners, Chasse Building Team. The Town also partnered with Architekton, and Abacus to complete the facility.
“The Marana Aquatic and Recreation Center recently celebrated one year of operations, and we continue to be amazed by the outpouring of support we have received from the community,” said Parks and Recreation Director Wayne Barnett. “This award reflects the community’s enthusiasm and the need for a facility like this. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue growing and serving our members, and we thank the Metropolitan Pima Alliance for this recognition.”
Public Works staff accepted the award for the Twin Peaks Rattlesnake Pass project, which transformed a narrow, flood-prone two-lane roadway into a four-lane corridor serving one of the region’s fastest-growing areas.
“This project reflects the strong collaboration between the Town of Marana and our infrastructure, development and community partners,” said Public Works Director Fausto Burruel. “Completing the project ahead of schedule while improving safety and mobility for the traveling public makes this a tremendous asset for our community.”
The Town of Marana partnered with Pima County, Hunter Contracting, utility providers and community stakeholders on the project, with financial contributions from D.R. Horton.
In 2025, the Town of Marana also received a Common Ground Award for its role in the CalPortland Shared Use Path project.
The Town of Marana thanks the Metropolitan Pima Alliance for recognizing projects that continue to enhance quality of life and infrastructure for the community.
