MARANA- The Town of Marana is the proud recipient of a 2025 Common Ground Award from the Metropolitan Pima Alliance for the CalPortland Shared Use Path project.

This collaborative effort between the Town of Marana, Pima County, and CalPortland connects more than 30,000 residents in North Marana to the 137-mile Chuck Huckelberry Loop trail system. The project exemplifies regional collaboration and a shared vision for enhancing community connectivity and quality of life through innovative infrastructure.

"The CalPortland Shared Use Path (SUP) project was an exceptional project from both a collaboration perspective as well as a public use perspective," said Parks & Recreation Director Jim Conroy. "The collaboration and partnership of public sector agencies--Pima County Flood Control District and Town of Marana-- working together with private sector partner CalPortland Cement Plant was extraordinary; this new bike path is currently serving over 14,000 path users per month since it opened in August 2024."

Parks & Recreation Deputy Director Wayne Barnett accepted the award on behalf of the Town during the Common Ground Awards ceremony held at the Hacienda Del Sol Resort and Spa on April 18, 2025.

The Town of Marana celebrated the opening of the Chuck Huckelberry Loop extension with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 14, 2024.
