Sour Now, Sweet Later: Navigating Tangerine Road Construction
Published on March 18, 2026
MARANA—The Town of Marana is rolling out “The Great Tangerine Squeeze,” a public awareness campaign designed to keep drivers informed as construction begins on a series of major improvements to the Tangerine Road and Interstate 10 Interchange.
Several infrastructure improvements have already been completed, which include the widening of Tangerine Road and a new dedicated turn lane on the westbound off-ramp, which expands vehicle storage for improved traffic flow.
The Town is working with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and prepare the area for continued growth.
Work is underway for the Eastbound Intersection Improvements, featuring a new on-and off-ramp alignment. Starting May 18, 2026, a two-week closure is planned to finish construction of the eastbound off-ramp, affecting I-10 drivers coming from Phoenix. Drivers can use Marana Road and Avra Valley Road as alternate exits.
Beginning in June 2026, work begins on the Tangerine Road underpass abutment lanes in both directions. Expect changing traffic patterns and lane closures. Motorists should anticipate delays and seek alternate routes. This work is expected to be completed by March 2027.
Future Improvements
Additional improvements are planned as part of the Union Pacific Railroad crossing phase, which is currently in the final design stage. That phase will include intersection improvements, new traffic signal poles, railroad track expansion, and opening the newly constructed abutment lanes.
Construction of the railroad crossing improvements will require a temporary full closure of the Tangerine railroad crossing for approximately eight weeks, though the construction schedule has not yet been finalized.
Long-term plans also include ultimate interchange improvements, which could feature additional intersection upgrades and a grade-separated crossing.
Keeping the Community Informed
The Great Tangerine Squeeze campaign will provide updates through videos, social media, and project alerts to help drivers navigate construction and stay informed throughout each phase of construction. Travelers can get the latest project updates by following the Town’s social media channels and visiting the official project page: www.Maranaaz.com/Squeeze.
Project timelines may be adjusted based on coordination with outside agencies.
The project is being designed by Psomas and constructed by Borderland Construction Company.
