Town unveils plaque in honor of Mayor Ed Honea

MARANA, Ariz. – On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Town of Marana staff gathered for the unveiling of the Mayor Ed Honea plaque, located at the front entrance of the Ed Honea Marana Municipal Complex administration building. The plaque honors the late mayor’s thirty-seven years of service and the profound impact he had on the Marana community.
“The dedication of the building in his name was something that was done by the Council,” said Town Manager Terry Rozema, citing the December 3rd Town Council meeting where the unanimous decision was made. “It’s been a work in progress. This is a really cool day to remember Mayor Honea and to dedicate this facility to him.”
Mayor Honea passed on November 22, 2024, at the age of 77. A pillar of the Marana community, he dedicated his life to serving Marana with unwavering commitment, vision, and a genuine passion for making the community a better place for all.
“[Mayor Honea] was our good friend, our longtime friend. We miss him,” said Mayor Jon Post. “The longer I [serve as] mayor, the more I realize the sacrifices he made to be the mayor. We love him very much and miss him dearly.”
The unveiling coincides with the recent updating of building signage to include Mayor Honea’s name.
