MARANA- Four months into his role as Parks and Recreation Director, Wayne Barnett is already helping shape the next chapter of recreation in the Town of Marana.
“We have such a strong, talented, and dedicated Parks and Recreation team. I feel fortunate and honored to serve as their leader,” said Parks and Recreation Director Wayne Barnett.
Appointed in October 2025, The Town of Marana’s Parks and Recreation Department continues to prioritize community engagement, long-range planning, and maintaining the high standards residents have come to expect.
“Wayne has been a dedicated member of our organization and understands both the mission of our Parks & Recreation Department and the needs of our community,” said Town Manager Terry Rozema. “He leads with professionalism and compassion, and I am confident he will continue to strengthen the department in his role as Director.”
In his first months, Barnett has overseen two well-attended Signature Events, major ballfield renovations, and continued growth at the Marana Aquatic & Recreation Center (MARC), which remains a central gathering place for residents.
“The first few months in this role have been a whirlwind,” said Barnett. “I am excited about the future of Marana Parks and Recreation and the opportunity to serve our community in this capacity.”
Barnett brings more than four decades of experience in parks and recreation to the position. He is a Certified Parks and Recreation Executive (CPRE) and a former president of the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to advancing parks and recreation as a cornerstone of community well-being.
Looking ahead, one of the department’s top priorities in 2026 is the five-year update to the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Community input will play a key role in shaping the department’s future direction and ensuring continued alignment with Marana’s growth.
