MARANA – In a major investment for aviation safety nationwide, the Marana Regional Airport will receive $800,000 in federal grant money to design a future air traffic control tower.
The Marana Regional Airport (AVQ) was one of several projects awarded funding through the Federal Contract Tower (FCT) Grant Program.
According to the Department of Transportation, the Federal Contract Tower Grant Program provides funding to modernize towers, improve airport infrastructure, and install critical air traffic control and communications equipment at eligible airports.
“We are excited to receive funding support from the FAA for the design of an air traffic control tower at Marana Regional Airport,” said Newly Appointed Project Manager Dennis Horn. “This tower will help enhance the safety and efficiency of airport operations while supporting the airport’s continued growth.”
“This funding marks an important milestone for our airport, and we are grateful for the support from our partners and staff who helped move this project forward,” said Airport Manager Galen Beem.
Marana Regional Airport is classified as a general aviation reliever airport for Tucson International. It is located 30 minutes northwest of Tucson and five miles west of Interstate 10 on Avra Valley Road.
