MARANA- After more than a decade, the Marana Police Department is proud to announce the return of its Bike Patrol Unit, expanding its ability to serve and protect the community.

This highly visible team will focus on patrolling business plazas, neighborhoods, and the popular Chuck Huckelberry Loop in Marana, strengthening community connections while enhancing public safety.

The Bike Patrol Unit is led by Sergeant Neil Jordan and includes Officer Mike Jennings, Officer Brad Gill, and Officer James Riegert. The team began its training earlier this month and each member recently completed an intensive 40-hour certification course that included endurance rides, precision cone work, tactical maneuvers, and off-road trail training, ensuring they are fully prepared for the unique demands of bike patrol operations.

“Our team wasted no time making an impact. Within just 20 minutes of our first deployment, our Bike Patrol officers located and arrested a shoplifting suspect who had stolen merchandise from Target," said Sergeant Neil Jordan. "As our community continues to grow, we’re preparing for the busy summer months and the increased activity that comes with it. Our goal is to be visible, proactive, and connected to the community we serve.”

The department is grateful for the assistance of Sergeant Brad Pelton of the Tucson Police Department, who helped train the team. Officer Mike Jennings also brought valuable experience to the course, having previously served for many years in Tucson Police Department’s bike unit.

The Marana Police Department encourages the community to show its support for the Bike Patrol Unit by continuing to watch out for one another. Please remember to share the road, stay alert, and watch for cyclists as we work to keep Marana safe.
