On August 20th, 2026 at approximately 7:53 AM., Marana Police Department officers and personnel from the Northwest Fire District responded to a report of a vehicle collision involving a bicyclist near N. Midfield Rd. and W. Hancock Dr. The collision involved a 2008 Ford Expedition and a bicycle. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male unresponsive on the ground. Lifesaving efforts were attempted by bystanders. The juvenile was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, the juvenile was pronounced deceased. The bicyclist was an 11-year-old boy who was a student at Tangerine Farms K – 8 School. Next of kin has been notified of his passing. The Marana Police Department Traffic Unit responded to continue the investigation.
Investigators processed the scene and collected roadway evidence. The 2008 Ford Expedition was traveling northbound on N. Midfield Rd. The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was riding eastbound from W. Hancock Dr., crossing N. Midfield Rd. in an unmarked crosswalk. The collision occurred in the northbound lane of N. Midfield Rd. The driver of the Ford Expedition remained on-scene. Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the collision. We would like to thank those citizens who stopped at the scene to render aid. The investigation is currently ongoing. At this time, no citations or arrests have been made.
Our condolences go out to the child’s family and all those affected during this difficult time. We recognize the profound impact this tragedy has on our community and will continue working to create safer roadways.
