MARANA- Marana’s Heritage River Park is blooming with community pride after a special volunteer rose planting project.

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, a dozen volunteers from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5990 gather at the park to plant 25 rose bushes in the display garden as part of a one-day community service event.

This project was coordinated in partnership with the Town of Marana’s Parks and Recreation Department after the VFW Post 5990 expressed interest in volunteer opportunities for the month of May.

Parks Superintendent Dominic Rullo worked closely with the group to identify the project. Parks Maintenance team members Jesus Carrillo and Adam Huff then provided leadership and support throughout the day.

“This event not only beautified the park but also served as a powerful example of civic pride and partnership. It’s moments like these that strengthen our community—enriching everyone involved, quite literally, from the roots up,” said Parks Superintendent Dominic Rullo.

Town staff and volunteers planted two symbolic varieties:

  • Mr. Lincoln (Red Rose) – A bold hybrid tea rose with a deep red color and rich fragrance.
  • Sugar Moon (White Rose) – A citrus-scented rose with clean, white blooms and a classic full shape.

The Town of Marana extends its sincere appreciation to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5990 for your generous service and partnership during this project.
