MARANA, AZ — Marana Town Council has appointed Libby Shelton as the new Town Magistrate. Shelton brings more than two decades of legal experience to the bench, including fourteen years as a prosecutor and nearly a decade of service to the Town of Marana.

Shelton began her career at the Pima County Attorney’s Office, where she handled a range of cases from misdemeanors to vehicular felonies, and served as the Arizona Auto Theft Task Force Prosecutor. After a period in private practice, she joined the City of Tucson Prosecutor’s Office and was part of the Domestic Violence Court from its inception in 2012. In 2015, she became the Town Prosecutor for Marana and later advanced to Deputy Town Attorney in 2020, advising several key departments on legal matters.

“Libby has demonstrated unwavering commitment to justice and public service throughout her career,” said Mayor Jon Post. “Her extensive experience, deep understanding of our community, and strong legal judgment make her exceptionally well-suited to serve as our Town Magistrate. We are proud to have someone of her caliber step into this important role.”

Town Manager Terry Rozema added, “Libby’s leadership, integrity, and deep knowledge of the law have made her an invaluable part of our team. I had full confidence in recommending her for this role, and I know she’ll serve the community with fairness and distinction.”

Shelton earned both her bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees from the University of Arizona. Her career also includes legal training and presentations for various state and local agencies, and she has been involved in numerous community initiatives related to domestic violence, DUI, and shoplifting prevention. She has also served on the boards of MHC Healthcare and the Jim Himelic Foundation.

Shelton succeeds Judge Laine McDonald, who has gone on to serve as Pima County Superior Court Judge. Her appointment is effective May 5, 2025.
