Town of Marana honors the 2023 Branding Iron Award recipients

MARANA- The Branding Iron Awards honor members of the public for their service to the community. This year during the annual Marana State of the Town event, Mayor Ed Honea presented Branding Iron Awards to Don & Georgia Duncan and Dot Santy.

DON AND GEORGIA DUNCAN:

“Since moving to Marana in 2007, Don and Georgia Duncan have left their mark on the community, and what a mark it’s been! Their volunteer work extends from their own neighborhood HOA to the Marana Community Food Bank and the Town of Marana. Don served on the Marana Volunteer Police Academy, the Marana Citizens’ Forum, and the Marana Planning Commission, the latter of which he just retired after ten years.

Georgia has always been by Don’s side as – quote – “the mouse in his pocket”, helping in the background and, in some cases, taking lead on projects.

Don and Georgia Duncan have made an impact on their community and the people around them simply by being themselves.”

DOT SANTY:

“Dot Santy is a huge supporter of our schools. She attended a Marana High School Choir concert in 2019 and learned that one of the students was experiencing homelessness. She knew that she had to do something to help them and any other student in a similar situation. She scheduled a meeting with the Director of Student and Family Support Services to discuss the needs of students and families in the Marana community, and the rest, shall we say, his history. After her first benefit concert raised over $2,000, Dot went on to create the Youth Education Supports (YES) group to increase awareness of student needs. Since their first fundraiser, Dot has helped raise over $300,000 dollars.”
