Marana Water recognized for environmental compliance and quality utility services

ADEQ representatives present Marana Water with VESP awards

MARANA- The Town of Marana Water Department is once again being recognized by the state for its commitment to providing above and beyond environmental stewardship through its water service, water reclamation service, water conservation, community education and outreach.

Marana Water was presented with a Silver level award in the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality’s Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program (VESP) for its voluntary 1,4-dioxane and PFAS monitoring program. In 2016, Marana Water started a volunteer-based water sampling program to test for the unregulated compounds 1,4-dioxane and PFAS. Marana Water also received a Bronze level award for successfully staying in compliance within the past three years.

The VESP recognizes and awards incentives to Arizona businesses and other organizations that have a good history of environmental compliance and strive to go beyond what is legally required to protect public health and the environment.

The Town of Marana Water Department was presented with the Copper level certificate in 2021 for the Town’s continued strong environmental compliance record and commitment to construct and operate the Airline/Lambert and Picture Rocks Water Treatment Campuses for emerging contaminants, such as PFAS and 1,4- Dioxane.
