The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) recognized the Town of Marana Water Department through their Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program’s (VESP) Copper level certificate, for the Town’s continued strong environmental compliance record and commitment to construct and operate the Airline/Lambert and Picture Rocks Water Treatment Campuses for emerging contaminants, such as PFAS and 1,4- Dioxane. These treatment facilities provide safe, clean drinking water to the community, and sampling results from both facilities continue to show non-detects of both contaminants.

ADEQ developed the Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program in 2012, as a way to identify and reward organizations that recognize opportunities for reducing cost and encouraging technological innovation. Organizations that join VESP work together on environmental quality issues and support ADEQ’s mission - to protect and enhance public health and the environment in Arizona.

The Copper Level recognition is awarded to facilities that have completed an environmental project that resulted in measurable improvements to the environment. For more information on ADEQ and the VESP program, click here.

Marana Water will move on for the Gold Level recognition in the coming year.
