WHAT IS A GENERAL PLAN?

The General Plan is the Town’s roadmap to the future. Make Marana 2040 is a comprehensive view of growth and development for the Town of Marana over the next 10 to 20 years. It’s a visionary document that helps guide all aspects of the town, including: growth and development, health and safety, town services, and the environment.

Arizona state law requires that each city/town and county prepare and maintain a planning document called a general plan. A general plan is designed to serve as the town’s “blueprint” for future decisions concerning land use and resource conservation.

WHAT GOES IN THE GENERAL PLAN?

State law has different requirements for communities of different sizes. For cities and towns with a population greater than 50,000, a general plan must address 17 mandatory components or “elements”. Today, Marana’s population is over 43,000 people.  As a result, Town leaders have decided to include all 17 Elements in this comprehensive update.  In addition, the Town is including 2 additional elective elements.  Click here for a full list of the 19 Elements to be included in the Make Marana 2040 General Plan.
