MARANA- The Town of Marana is honoring the outstanding leadership of Jim Conroy, who has served as Director of Marana Parks and Recreation since October 2017.
Conroy is retiring on October 10, 2025, after a long career in public service which includes the past eight years with the Town of Marana.
Under his leadership, the Marana Parks and Recreation Department completed its 10-Year Master Plan, charting a course for future growth and earning the 2021 Metropolitan Pima Alliance Common Ground Award for its community impact. Conroy also guided the completion of the CalPortland Shared-Use Path, a decades-long project that connected thousands of residents to the regional Chuck Huckelberry Loop system and earned both a 2025 Metropolitan Pima Alliance Common Ground Award as well as the 2025 Project of the Year for Structures under $5 million from the Arizona American Public Works Association.
A highlight of his tenure was the opening of the Marana Aquatic and Recreation Center (MARC), a state-of-the-art, multi-generational facility downtown that enhances the health, wellness and quality of life for community members.
Conroy’s efforts also led to numerous awards from the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association for the Town of Marana. His collaborative spirit fostered strong partnerships across Marana and Pima County, earning him widespread respect for his advocacy, and dedication to public service.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor. But I think more important, I couldn’t have asked for a better friend. Jim has been such a great leader. He, leads with passion. He leads with enthusiasm. There couldn't be a better champion for the Town of Marana and Marana Parks and Recreation,” said Wayne Barnett, Deputy Director of Marana Parks and Recreation.
“When you think about impact to a community, typically it's somebody who's been in that community for a very long time… and Jim, having been with us here for eight years, it's remarkable the kind of impact that he's had, not only on the department that he was a part of…but the entire organization here at the Town of Marana and the community as a whole,” said Marana Town Manager Terry Rozema.
“Jim Conroy has been a tireless leader and advocate for Marana Parks and Recreation,” said Mayor Jon Post. “His legacy will last a lifetime here in Marana.”
The Town of Marana extends its deepest gratitude to Jim Conroy for his lasting contributions and exceptional service to the Marana community.
