MARANA, AZ – The Town of Marana is pleased to announce the appointment of Jill McCleary as Town Clerk, effective April 21, 2025.
McCleary transitions into the role from her current position as Marana’s Cultural & Heritage Specialist, where she has been instrumental in launching the Marana Heritage Archives—an initiative preserving the community’s stories through oral histories, photographs, documents, and artifacts.
She succeeds David Udall, who has accepted a new position as Deputy Director of the Town’s Legal Department.
“We are excited to see Jill step into this role,” said Town Manager Terry Rozema. “Her expertise and professionalism will be a valued asset in the ongoing effort of preserving the Town's records for generations to come."
A longtime Marana resident and advocate for community-centered service, McCleary brings more than 20 years of experience in government, cultural heritage, and nonprofit institutions. Her career has focused on administration, strategic planning, and community engagement.
Prior to joining the Town of Marana, McCleary served in leadership roles at the University of Arizona Museum of Art, where she was Director for four years. She led the museum through a successful reaccreditation process, managed its largest exhibition in over a decade, and oversaw major facility renovations. She also held roles at the Arizona Historical Society and Tucson Medical Center Foundation, where she focused on collections management and institutional policy development.
McCleary holds a master’s degree in library and information science and a certificate in museum studies from the University of Iowa.
“Having the opportunity to serve the town I call home is one of the greatest honors of my career,” McCleary said. “It is a privilege to step into this role and build upon the outstanding work already being done in the Town Clerk’s office.”
