MARANA- Don’t fall for the fake call. That’s the warning from the Marana Police Department after a recent rise in phone and internet scams.
According to the Marana Police Department, the scammers are impersonating local law enforcement agencies and claiming the victim has a warrant out for their arrest. They then direct the victim to withdraw money to clear the warrant and transfer it into either Bitcoin or a similar type of crypto currency.
The Marana Police Department will NEVER call you and demand money from you or request you pay in a specific way involving gift cards, cryptocurrency, or a wire transfer. It is also important to remember that legitimate court or other legal fees are paid directly through the courts and not through cryptocurrency platforms or other means.
If you receive a suspicious call like this, hang up immediately and report it to law enforcement. You can report fraudulent activity to the non-emergency line at 520-382-2000. You may also file a police report in person by visiting the station at 11555 W. Civic Center Drive Building D Marana, AZ 85653.
