Marana Water ready for new PFAS Regulations

MARANA – Marana Water is committed to providing safe, clean drinking water to its customers and is prepared to meet the new PFAS regulations recently passed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on April 10.

“We support this historic step toward preserving the health and safety of our community members through quality drinking water,” said Director of Marana Water Department Dr. Jing Luo.

Marana Water began monitoring levels of PFAS and other emerging contaminants following the EPA’s initial health advisory guidelines in 2016. This early action placed Marana at the forefront of PFAS management before regulatory mandates were established. In addition to testing and outreach, the Marana Town Council made the courageous decision to build two state-of-the-art treatment campuses for the Continental Reserve and Saguaro Bloom systems in 2020.

Marana Water initiated the Marana PFAS Treatment Feasibility Study in response to the updated EPA health advisories in 2022, underscoring the Town of Marana’s commitment to proactive management of PFAS contamination.

As of these latest EPA regulations, Town staff will continue to monitor PFAS levels and identify financial resources for future treatment facilities.

“This new regulation marks a continuation of our long-term commitment to tackle PFAS contamination head-on,” said Dr. Luo. “We are committed to maintaining the highest water quality standards and keeping our community well informed.”
