Marana Police train to prevent smuggling activity

MARANA- The Marana Police department continues to host and participate in training programs to be able to better protect the public and provide five-star service.

In November 2022, the department hosted a Smugglers Inc. training focused on helping participants identify and prevent smuggling activity which involves drug smuggling, human smuggling and potential human trafficking involved with that.

“Arizona being one of the Southwest border states, it is the epicenter for where most of the criminal activity of that sort takes place so it is essential for law enforcement officers to be able to effectively identify the players and bring them to justice,” said Shawn Pardazi, CEO and Founder of Triple I Solutions.

Triple I Solutions is a company that provides specialized law enforcement training on Homeland Security related topics. Shawn Pardazi traveled to Marana to lead the Smugglers Inc. 2.0 class over the course of two days.

“I hope that by understanding how the smuggling operations take place they’re effectively able to identify any sort of criminal activity that happens while they’re on patrol, patrolling the highways and the rural areas to be able to identify those that are actually smuggling contraband into the United States which ends up being a national security issue… and now with the fentanyl outbreak we can try to at least save lives and bring those who are responsible for creating havoc in the country to justice,” said Pardazi.

“This is one of those trainings that obviously is geared towards highway interdiction, Marana being in the center of I-10 and I-10 running right through the town, this kind of stuff is coming and going daily…all day and all night and this is something that I want to get out there and start to recognize and find and  hopefully prevent it,” said Marana Police Officer Alex Mejia.

“Recognizing that it is an every day thing that comes across Marana that we can utilize constantly and be able to make an impact on it,” said Marana Police Officer Kyle Wagoner.

“I want the public to know that law enforcement every day go out and risk their lives. They’re out here to serve the public. They leave their families not knowing if they’re going to go back home so for them to support law enforcement and their actions and everything they’re doing is extremely essential,” said Pardazi.
