Marana Parks & Recreation Receives Three APRA Awards

Marana Parks & Recreation received three Best of the Best awards from the Arizona Parks & Recreation Association (APRA) for the #SplashSavvy program and Spread the Love Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive.

#SplashSavvy is a campaign meant to spread community awareness and education of Drowning Response by providing everyone with the tools and resources needed to effectively respond to a drowning to protect the ones they love from further complications. The #SplashSavvy program received the Outstanding Program award for both the Educational and Aquatics categories.

This initiative included outreach through social media, videos, drowning drills, printable materials and resources to use at home, and a relay event with our community partners Northwest Fire District and MHC Healthcare. To learn more about #SplashSavvy, click here.

 
 

Spread the Love Donation Drive | Outstanding Special Event

Marana Parks and Recreation also received the Outstanding Special Event (Population 10,001 - 100,000) for our Spread the Love Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive. Between the months of October to December 2020, the Marana Recreation staff hosted the “Spread the Love” campaign, a food drive to assist the local food bank with growing demand during the COVID-19 pandemic. The drive resulted in a donation of over 700 jars of peanut butter and jelly, totaling 1767 pounds, plus a $250 cash donation. To learn more about the results of the food drive, click here.
