Marana made the list of safest cities in Arizona by Safewise
The Town of Marana was named one of the top-10 safest cities in Arizona by safewise.com, ranking 10th overall.
The Town scored particularly well in terms of violent crime, with just 0.7 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. In the previous rankings Marana had 0.9 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. The state average is 4.7 per 1,000 citizens.
Marana only had 23.2 property crimes per 1,000 residents, a decrease from 26.2 in 2019.
To determine the safest cities in Arizona, safewise.com reviewed the 2018 FBI crime report statistics and population data.
Their evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) in each city. If there was a tie, we also factored in the number of property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft). To level the playing field, we calculated the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in each city. This makes it easier to directly compare the likelihood of these crimes occurring in cities with vastly different populations.
